I’ve used your article countless times to argue that subfolders are better than subdomains… But it looks like it shouldn’t have such a big impact…

Haha yeah Google always says things don’t make a difference but we’ve seen multiple instances where it made a massive difference. We’ll be writing another case study about another client that did this too,

In terms of seeing or hearing anything about it backfiring, I haven’t seen or heard anything personally. But I do know that technically it can be challenging sometimes depending on how your website is configured. Potentially they forgot to redirect all of the pages (I have seen this happen).

Have you ever seen this backfire? I remember discussing this with a content marketer once and their SEO got wrecked after moving from a subdomain to a subfolder even though they supposedly did everything by the book.

I think at this point I’d be too scared to make the switch but I always wonder if SEO could be improved. Also remember a video from Matt Cutts saying there shouldn’t be a difference but I don’t necessarily trust everything that comes out of their mouth…

Yes, it’s a long debated topic in the SEO world. But the argument to move from a subdomain to a subfolder is that Google views a subdomain as a separate domain and doesn’t pass as much link juice to your parent domain. So the thought is, by moving your blog to a subfolder (part of your parent domain), you now get the benefit of the link juice across your whole site and it improves domain authority and rankings.

After seeing a few companies do this now, I believe that moving to a subfolder does help a lot.

Can you please guide me what was the major reason for shift from subdomian (blog.leadfeeder.com) to a subfolder (leadfeeder.com/blog/)?
